Sometime in the past 2 week I received some insight on the symbolism of The Sword of The Spirit.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

Most people get the term Sword of The Spirit from this verse. But I want to connect it with another verse found in Genesis.

“He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:24

Just like how a flaming sword guarded the way to eternal life, so the Word of God (The Sword of The Spirit) that we abide in guards our way from any who would try to steal the crown of righteousness that is laid up for us. And like the sword that guarded Eden, so the Word of God is autonomous once we’ve read through it a couple of times.
